Objectivity

When determining if information reflects a point of view or bias, ask yourself these questions:

  • Is the information factual or is it an interpretation of facts?
  • Can information found in one source be verified in other places?
  • Does the publisher represent a religious, political, lobby or other interest group?
  • Are there any stereotypes, assumptions or strong opinions?
  • Do advertisements influence the content (especially on the Web)?
  • Are various points of view, theories, techniques or schools of thought represented equally?
