Citation Style Guides
There are many approaches to citing references, and many disciplines have their own format. Commonly used styles include:
- MLA (Modern Language Association) style, which is used frequently in the arts and humanities
- APA (American Psychological Association) style, used in the social sciences
- Turabian or the Chicago Manual of Style, also used in the social sciences and humanities
- CBA (Council of Biology Editors), used in the sciences
More information and examples of actual citations are available at Style Guides. Be sure to ask your professor or instructor for advice.
Tip: Some databases (such as Academic Search Premier) have built-in citation makers, where you can select documents and convert the documents to the style of your choice. Or try using the Citation Machine, a website that can help write MLA, APA and Turabian citations.
