Searching Databases
In the last section of Research 101, you learned about the diversity of information sources that are available online and in print. This module covers how to choose and use an appropriate database correctly. It also teaches you how to translate your research question or thesis into search queries that can be understood by database search engine.
After completing this section, you will be able to:
- Distinguish a database from other types of information collections
- Connect to a database from the UF Libraries’ website
- Identify the concept of field, or advanced searching in a database
- Construct effective search queries using Boolean operators, limiters and related strategies
- Define and identify metasearch engines
